The following issues facing the School Committee have enticed Laurie to run at this point, as she has the experience to effectively contribute and collaborate to help continue to move Easthampton Public Schools in the right direction:
Racial tension: Experience in conflict resolution and a Master’s Degree in Intercultural Relations will aid the oversight and implementation of the 10-Point Action Plan.
New school building: Decades of experience in advocacy will help garner community support for this crucial new educational facility. Was an active member of the founding Manhan Rail Trail Committee for eleven years.
Foundation budget: Political leadership experience to help influence those who can change the current faulty structure. Testified at the State House to keep the cap on charter schools.
Hiring a new superintendent: Teaching experience in four districts with five superintendents. As an active MTA member, she understands the importance of communication and teacher morale. In addition, as a Chair of a World Language Department, was in charge of hiring and evaluating teachers.
